Brown Soda Bread
3 cups wholemeal flour
1 cup cracked oats
1 cup wheat bran
1/4 cup wheat germ
handful sesame seeds
1 1/2 teaspoons soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
– mix well
– wet with approx. 3 cups buttermilk
– bake in oiled loaf tins at 180 degrees for approx. 40min.
White Scone Soda Bread
3 cups white flour
1 teaspoon bread soda
1 pinch salt
2 cups buttermilk (yogurt or other cultured milk)
butter, margarine or oil
handful raisins (sultanas, currents etc.)
– mix well
– rub in butter (margarine or oil)
– add a handful of raisins
– mix in 2 cups buttermilk
– dust a flat backing tray with flour and place dough on it
– flatten, shape and bake at 180 degrees golden
